Alright, strap in, folks, because we’re diving headfirst into the mind-boggling stupidity of the Mounties Group – Junior Swimming Pool (swim lessons) bathroom situation. Picture this: Your a Dad at swim lessons with your child/children, they finish their lesson and its time to dry and change them or how about something fu*king basic like nature calls and you need the bathroom, you make your way to the bathroom that was formally labled Men and is now only labled Unisex, only to find half a dozen women drying and changing their sons and/or daughers now this isn’t the fault of anyone using the “unisex bathroom” but the situation they have been put in, is it not common sense to have a Male and Female bathroom, where the adult in this situation enters the appropriate bathroom? i.e Male or Female. What the actual f*ck?
So, the geniuses behind this brilliant move have also designated a Female Only bathroom and a disabled/parents room. But wait, there’s a plot twist – apparently, this whole mess is justified by some vague “cultural reasons.” Ah, yes, because nothing says cultural respect like stripping away a basic necessity like a separate male bathroom.
Instead of, I don’t know, directing non-local cultures to other areas they can use, they just bulldoze through and snatch away approximately half the population’s privacy and safety. Because, hey, who needs boundaries when you can just bulldoze over them in the name of cultural sensitivity, right?
This isn’t about being woke or culturally aware; this is just pure, unadulterated stupidity at its finest. It’s like saying, “Hey, let’s just screw over the guys because, well, why the hell not?”
So, congratulations, Mounties Group, you’ve successfully managed to piss off half the population in one fell swoop. Who knew a bathroom could cause such a sh*tstorm?
Of course the correct and appropriate course of action to raise this with them directly has been done and the response was just as stupid as the situation. Below you will find two photos of said bathroom one before they received the below email and one right after.
Initial Correspondance
Dear Mounties,
I am writing to raise a concern regarding the current bathroom arrangement in the Junior Pools area, which I believe is impractical and needs to be reconsidered.
At present, the setup includes a Female Only bathroom and a Unisex bathroom (formerly the Male bathroom). Each Sunday morning, when I bring my son to his swimming class, the process of getting him changed after lessons becomes unnecessarily uncomfortable and frustrating. The Unisex bathroom is often occupied by multiple mothers and their children, leaving no appropriate space for fathers to assist their children.
To highlight the issue, my wife observed this morning that while the Unisex bathroom was crowded with mothers and children, the Female Only bathroom remained completely unused. This setup lacks basic logic and consideration for all parents and guardians.
I urge management to revisit this arrangement and consider reverting to a more sensible setup where women and mothers use the Female bathroom, and men and fathers use the Male bathroom, as was previously the case. This simple change would create a more comfortable and practical environment for everyone.
As an organisation providing services to families and children, you have a clear duty of care to ensure that facilities are safe, inclusive, and appropriate for all caregivers. The current arrangement fails to meet that standard.
This concern is not being raised lightly. I expect a formal response and proposed resolution within five business days. Failing that, I will have no hesitation in escalating the matter further.
Mounties Response
Thank you for your email.
We appreciate you taking the time to write to us regarding your concerns around the bathroom arrangement we have place in the Learn to Swim pool area.
Our current bathroom arrangement in the Learn to Swim pool area includes a female bathroom, a unisex bathroom, a family changeroom (including a shower & change table) as well as our disability toilet.
The bathrooms have recently been upgraded; however, the unisex bathroom has been changed from a male only bathroom for a few years now. This change was made to better accommodate to all of our members and families throughout the health and fitness facility. The change was made to provide a safe place for all parents to change their child regardless of gender, whilst being mindful of the number of families we have where mothers are changing their sons & fathers changing their daughters. There are also a number of families who have cultural needs that we aim to be inclusive of within our centre, also contributing to the change.
Unfortunately, whilst we do wish we were able to provide 3 bathrooms in our Learn to Swim pool area, it is simply not possible for us. We do however have a female only bathroom and a male only bathroom, as well as an additional disability toilet available through the main corridor which you are more than welcome to use.
Whilst we understand this may be of inconvenience for you, it was found to be the most suitable and accommodating option for all members throughout our facility given the space we have available.
We are always looking for ways to be more inclusive within our centre and we appreciate your feedback which will be taken into consideration for future planning.
As a side note, the additional male and female bathrooms they mention are quite a walk with a wet and cold child which shouldn’t be required when there is a perfectly good or at least there once was a Male bathroom that should be as it was intended.
